THE PROCESS

Depending on your situation, going through an insurance claim for a vehicle repair can be difficult.

1. REPORT THE ACCIDENT

In the ACT, you are required by law to report a vehicle collision within 24 hours. You can report the accident using this form. Police will only attend the site of a collision if there has been a fatality, where a person requires an ambulance, the vehicles are causing disruption to traffic, there is a threat of danger or alcohol/drugs were an influencing factor.

2. MAKE A CLAIM

After everyone is safe and the police have been notified/attended, then it is time to contact your insurance company. There are a few ways of making a claim, but typically you can do it online or over the phone as the easiest options. The insurance company will want to know all of the details of the accident.

3. CHOOSE YOUR REPAIRER

Depending on the fine print in your insurance cover, you may or may not have a choice of repairer. Your insurance company will advise you of this at the time of making your claim. If you can;t choose your repairer, they will provide you with the details of where to take your vehicle to one of their “partner repairers”. If you can choose, then it’s really up to you to find a reputable, trustworthy repairer.

4. DELIVER YOUR VEHICLE

Once your insurance company knows where your vehicle is going to be repaired, it is time to get the vehicle to the shop. If it is drive-able and roadworthy, then you can simply drive it in to us. Otherwise, you may have to have it towed. For premium insurance cover, towing is a free service, but without this level of cover, you may need to pay additional fees for this too.

5. PAY YOUR EXCESS

Now this part can be at a different point depending on your insurer and the repair company, but with us, you can either choose to pay your insurance excess directly to the insurer at the time of making the claim or you can pay it to us, prior to collecting your vehicle.

6. COLLECT YOUR VEHICLE

At this point, your vehicle will have been restored and repaired completely. Your insurance company will organize payment of the repair bill to us and finalize the end of your accident claim.
